Where is the Île du Pilier located?
Located 5 km northwest of Noirmoutier, the Île du Pilier is a rocky islet that now belongs to the Conservatoire du Littoral. It is separated from Noirmoutier by the Grise Channel.
Île du Pilier: A little piece of paradise near Noirmoutier
Off the northern port of Noirmoutier (Herbaudière), the Île du Pilier spans an area of 4 hectares. It is a haven for bird watchers as it shelters several species, including the majestic common eider, gulls, and oystercatchers. The island features a lighthouse built in 1877, a semaphore, and a few pristine beaches. This idyllic spot by the Atlantic Ocean is perfect for water sports at a nautical center, as well as swimming and hiking.
Getting to the Île du Pilier
The Île du Pilier, off the coast of Noirmoutier, is only accessible by boat—an ideal activity during a Vendée tourism getaway. Departures are from the port of Herbaudière daily at 10:30 AM, with a return at 6:00 PM. Maritime connections are operated by O’Abandonado. Excursion prices (round trip): Adults and children over 12 years: €60 (€85 with meals) / Children under 12 years: €35 (€45 with meals).
