Where is the Île d'Yeu located?
Situated off the Vendée coast in the Bay of Biscay, directly opposite Saint-Jean-de-Monts, north of Les Sables-d'Olonne, and south of Noirmoutier, the Île d’Yeu boasts a rugged coastline reminiscent of the wild Vendée shores (on its western side) and sandy beaches (on its eastern side).
Its proximity to the mainland (17 km), modest size (10 km long and 4 km wide), location on the Atlantic coast, sunny weather, and pristine nature make it a dream destination for visitors seeking a complete change of scenery during a stay at Le Paradis campsite in Vendée.
Ferry Connections to the Île d'Yeu
Maritime connections between the Île d’Yeu and the Vendée coastline are operated by two main providers: Compagnie Vendéenne and Yeu Continent. The departure docks for Compagnie Vendéenne boats vary depending on the season:
- Barbâtre (Noirmoutier Island) in July and August
- Fromentine (La Barre-des-Monts) from April to November
- Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie from April to October
The crossing takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour 15 minutes.
The Yeu Continent company operates year-round, departing from the Fromentine port terminal.
It offers travelers crossings by catamaran (30 minutes) or cargo ship (1 hour 10 minutes).
Between these two providers, the maritime connection between the mainland and the island of Yeu is ensured year-round, with several departures daily between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Departure frequency is higher during the high season.
Regardless of the maritime company and the departure port for your excursions, the adult round-trip ticket costs approximately €39.
Discounted rates are available for children, groups, large families, seniors, and people with disabilities. Annual passes are also available (€44 with Yeu Continent).
If maritime transport is not your preference, you can also reach the island by helicopter.
