The 2 Markets of Talmont-Saint-Hilaire
The Covered Market
The covered market in Talmont-Saint-Hilaire is the only market open all year round, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is located at Place du Payré and highlights local producers while promoting short supply chains. You'll find a variety of products, including cheeses, fruits, vegetables, honey, oysters, wines, and more. During the summer period, a food and craft market is held at Place du Payré on Thursdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., complementing the covered market.
The Summer Night Market
In July and August, you can find a night market every Wednesday evening from around 7 p.m. at Bourgenay Port, located about 7 kilometers from the town center. In a friendly seaside atmosphere, you can stroll among the stalls offering a wide range of products: food items, clothing, local crafts, and, of course, Vendée souvenirs. You can also dine at one of the restaurants on the port.
In the Surroundings
The Gourmet Wednesdays in Jard-sur-Mer
Every Monday morning throughout the year, an excellent and very popular market takes place at Place des Ormeaux. From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., you can discover various local products. A little further down Rue de l’Océan, the Gourmet Wednesdays are held. In July and August, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., you can treat yourself by sampling the many delicacies from Vendée. This summer market is a unique moment of sharing for all food lovers.
The Night Markets at the Port of Jard-sur-Mer
During the summer season, the Night Markets at the Port of Jard-sur-Mer are a favorite event among visitors. On Thursday evenings, from around 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., more than 80 vendors showcase their creations: crafts, all kinds of sweets, original jewelry, vacation souvenirs, beachwear, handmade cosmetics, and local products that delight passers-by. Considered one of the best markets in Vendée, you’ll find it easily at the marina.
The Central Market at Les Halles in Les Sables-d’Olonne
There are several markets in Les Sables-d’Olonne, both indoors and outdoors, such as the Arago Market or the Pironnière Market. However, the one that probably deserves a visit is the Central Market located on Rue des Halles. While the market has been around since 1810, the two-story building dates back to 1890 and was constructed by the Michelin company. The past lingers in these Baltard-style halls. Inside, you’ll find more than 60 local merchants and producers. The products sold are of high quality. The market is open daily from July 1 to August 31 and during school holidays, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The rest of the year, it operates at the same hours from Tuesday to Sunday. It also has a parking lot where the first hour is free.
Close to Talmont-Saint-Hilaire, you’ll find many other lively markets where Vendée's rich culture awaits discovery. During your 4-star camping vacation in Vendée, take the time to talk with local producers who will gladly let you sample their wonders and generously share culinary advice.
