Where is Vendée located?

Vendée is part of the Pays de la Loire region, in western France. Among its most famous towns are La Roche-sur-Yon, the capital, and Les Epesses, home to the Puy du Fou park, a renowned entertainment complex often highlighted by campsites within a 25 km radius.

  • Puy du Fou in Les Epesses
    Puy du Fou, a highlight of any Vendée map, is world-famous for its grandiose shows. Visitors marvel at a Viking longship rising from the waves or hawks and falcons soaring overhead.
    The Vendée complex also features medieval maidens levitating, heavily armed knights guarding castles, horses, drones, eagles, fireworks, and dancers in dazzling costumes — everything at Puy du Fou aims to dazzle spectators.
    The 50-hectare park boasts waterfalls, talking trees, playgrounds, and abundant wildlife, all accompanied by a lush soundtrack featuring Mozart and Vivaldi.

  • Les Sables-d’Olonne
    Located on the Côte de Lumière, covering 105 km² of Vendée’s coastline, the seaside town of Les Sables-d’Olonne is about 7 km south of Olonne-sur-Mer and 20 km north of Talmont-Saint-Hilaire.
    Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie is about 30 km north, and La Barre-de-Monts about 62 km away.
    The town is renowned for its bustling fishing port, with dozens of trawlers catching sole, hake, cuttlefish, tuna, and shellfish. A fish auction is held early in the morning from Monday to Friday, with guided tours regularly organized to showcase activities like packaging and fishmongering.

  • La Roche-sur-Yon
    Located in the heart of Vendée, nearby towns include Les Clouzeaux (9.5 km), La Ferrière (11 km), and Bournezeau (21.8 km).
    Chantonnay is about 33 km from La Roche-sur-Yon, and the nearest seaside destination is Brem-sur-Mer, 44.6 km to the west.
    Top attractions include the Vendée Equestrian Center and the Chocolate Museum.
    The World Records Space and the mechanical animals in the central square — including crocodiles, owls, Nile perch, camels, hippos, and flamingos — also attract many visitors. Each animal is connected to a control center that allows the public to move different parts for a spectacular show.
